What a great last week of fishing! The weather has been great and the fish have been eating. We have been catching kingfish, makeral and bonita offshore in 21 feet of water almost everycast the last few days. The fish have been near the bait pods and crashing the baits. Inshore has been excellent with snook really eating. I finished two days with the Moore group and took nearly 60 snook in two days. We did take a 35 lb tarpon mixed in as well. Not many tarpon inshore yet as the water temps are not 70*. Big jacks have envaded the islands and some fish to 15 lbs. We hit some trout mixed with snook yesterday that are the biggest trout I have seen. The small trout were 20" and the largest we over 24". Pompano have really picked up on the outside on the incoming tide with boats taking over 20 fish. We are getting a front tonight that will drop temps to 40*. I expect the fishing to change again as winds have gone from south to north with 30 MPH gusts expected for the next day. I hope the fronts will be near ending and the water temps will warm into the 70's. Good Fishing... Capt Robert Walczak March 13
The fishing slowed a week ago due to a major cold front that dropped the water to the 60's. The fishing was excellent prior to and again has been great the last few days. Water temps have hit the mid 70's and fish are moving shallow. We have hit alot of snook up to 30 a day. Snook are moving to their normal haunts. Bait is moving into the islands and alot of fish are following. BIG jacks have invaded the islands and we are getting some to 15 lbs. Tarpon have moved in the last 2 days and are starting to eat. We have hooked some fish over 120 lbs this week. Trout, bluefish and pompano are on the outside flats on the incoming tide. Jigs seem to be the best. Sharks are also moving in and we had a snook almost eaten boat side by a 150 lb bull shark. Trippletail have also moved in with fish to 12 lbs. Alot of options as the spring fishing is in full swing... Good Fishing... Capt Robert Walczak Select another page || Go to Home Page |
