APRIL 10 REPORT

April 4

A slight warm up and water temps slowly rising. Water temps dropped to 63* a few days ago and up to 69* yesterday. This winter and spring has been up and down with weather patterns but the fishing has been good. The trout are spawning and as we just came off a full moon. We have taken trout to 25 inchs this week and jigs have been the best. The big story is the great pompano fishing. Yesterday we hit them hard and reports from guides north as well that they were doing well. Redfish are fair with fish being both inside and outside. I bait fish with John Raye and his family 2 days ago and we took 4 nice snook. John caught his largest snook that day near 40 inch's. Not alot of bites with the bait but larger fish. Tarpon are here and we fished them yesterday with no luck. Water temps are still too cold as we saw around 20 fish over 100 lbs. Hopefully as the water warms this week they will turn on. The near shore reefs are full of nice snapper and big sheepshead. Makeral are starting in as the bait is slowly showing up.

April 13

We have warmed up a after a cold winter and spring. Wind now has hit us the last few days. Tarpon have showed up and I have hooked at least 1 a day the last 4 days. I fished Vic Carlson from Ill yesterday and we hooked 2 tarpon up to 110 LBS. Vic jumped one on a plug and jumped second one on cut bait. We had the second fish on for a few mintues and some great jumps. We also hooked 4 sharks up to 150lbs. The last 45 minutes we tried for snook and caught one 27 incher , one 24 inch trout and lost a red. Vic was throwing a jig. There is plenty of bait in the Islands but artificial seem to work as good. Pompano have also been good but the wind has the water dirty and the fish have moved out. Makeral have hit the Islands as well. We are expecting wind all week to 25 MPH so the water will be dirty this week making the fishing interesting.
